“Pay this man,” MLB Twitter reacts to Manny Machado’s announcement to leave the San Diego Padres after the 2023 season

Manny Machado has announced he will be out from the San Diego Padres after the 2023 season. He signed a $300 million, 10-year contract with the San Diego Padres in February 2019. A clause in the contract allows him to leave after the end of the season and become a free agent. The Padre’s baseman said he is considering signing a new high-paying contract after this season.

Machado will likely lose $150 million from the contract after the termination, which equates to about $30 million annually. Machado told the Reporter that he will opt out of the contract after this season because a clause allows him to do so and he will then become a free agent.

I think I’ve expressed that I will be opting out after this year, but I think my focus is not about 2024. I think my focus is about 2023″ He continues, “I think we’ve got something special here growing and I don’t think anything’s going to change.”

Machado’s contract was the second-highest-paid contract for a free agent after Giancarlo Stanton’s contract, which was worth $325 million at the time. Machado was named an All-Star six times with the San Diego Padres. His start with the Padres was fantastic, and he finished second in the NL MVP voting. In his first season with the Padres, he hit 32 home runs and 85 RBIs.

Machado played 60 games for the San Diego Padres in 2021, hitting 16 home runs and 47 RBIs and finishing third in the NL. He contributed to the team and helped the team win the National League Championship Series. Machado hit 108 home runs and 340 RBIs with a slash line of .280/.352/.504 and played 519 games in four seasons for the Padres.

Well, that’s not good news for Machado and Padres fans, but it will be interesting to see if the team will re-sign Machado. The Padres are not averse to spending money on great players if it improves the team. The Padres are among 3 teams projected to spend a whopping $233 million in payroll in 2023.

He won the Gold Glove Award in 2013 and 2015, the Platinum Glove Award in 2013, and the Silver Slugger Award in 2020. Machado said the market has changed drastically and there’s plenty of money to go around: “As a player on the verge of leaving, it’s pretty good to see.”

The third baseman’s announcement might upset some of his and the Padres fans. Let us wait and see how fans react on Twitter. One person tweeted “The media and Twitter clowns: MANY MACHADO HATES THE PADRES”
