In what started as a fun way to joke around, the Baltimore Orioles have now opened up a “Bird Bath” section. As per reports, this is done to raise the experience that the Orioles fan can have at their ballpark. A section at the lower side of the Camden Yards now fields seats for the fans. The main part is that the seats get drenched when the O’s record an extra-base hit.
Summer is on the horizon, and this comes as a welcome gift for the viewers from the stands. It also serves as an addition to the “Sprinkler celebration,” which they have adapted. In this celebration, the dugout spills water on the ground when they get an extra-base hit.
The 2023 Baltimore Orioles have been a fun team to watch. A side filled with youths has more than lived up to the hype created around them. The O’s are currently 26-13, just three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in AL East. To add more fun to this season, they decided to open this “Bird Bath” section. It was introduced on May 12 in the game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and had a perfect welcoming gift as Cedric Mullins delivered a cycle.

Cedric Mullins hits for the cycle as Orioles introduce Bird Bath section
The game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 12 was surrounded by excitement from the Baltimore Orioles fans. Their new section was getting introduced for the first time this season. Outfielder Cedric Mullins gave the fans a show they will never forget as he accomplished one of the most difficult tasks in baseball – hitting for the cycle.
For the universe, a player is said to hit for the cycle when he records a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in the same game. Hitting for the cycle is considered a major honor in the game of baseball. Mullins became the seventh Orioles hitter in their history to complete the cycle and the first since Austin Hays did so in June last year against the Nationals.
The O’s outfielder went for a single, a triple, and a double in the third, fifth, and seventh innings, respectively. When he came up to bat in the eighth inning, the anticipation regarding him going yard was clearly felt. With the game at 3-2 in his side’s favor, he drove the ball into the right for a three-run homer to hit for the cycle. This proved pivotal for the O’s as they defeated the Pirates 6-3.
This was the second cycle of the season. Luis Arraez of the Marlins was the first one to do so this year. This result meant the Pirates had lost their last ten games out of the eleven they played. A contrasting change in form has seen them lose their lead at the top. There is a long way to go this season as both these sides would be hoping for a chance to appear in the playoffs.
