Accidents and injuries are the most unfortunate things which can take place at any time. Despite developing measures to prevent such incidents, nobody can stop nature from taking its course. On Wednesday in a baseball game between the NY Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, cameraman Pete Stendel was the unlucky one as he was hit in the face by a fast throw. The game was later stopped due to this incident.

The nightmare action took place during the fifth inning. A wild throw from O’s rookie shortstop Gunnar Henderson caught the face of Stendel. The cameraman was placed right next to the dugout of the Yankees at the first base side. The game was paused for a 15 minute spell as Stendel received medical attention. He raised his hand to loud reception after being stretched off the field.

After the game, Henderson spoke about the incident. He mentioned how every time when the ball goes up high over the first baseman or foul ball toward a fan, they wish it does not hit them. “It just happened to be in the wrong spot, and I hope he’s doing all right. My prayers go out to him,” the rookie added in his statement.

The Orioles would later tweet out a speedy recovery message to Stendel after the game. It was just another one of those unfortunate incidents which could not have been prevented. According to reports from ESPN, he is conscious and further updates regarding his health will be announced later in the day.

When such incidents occur, the focus of the game gets lost. The main talking point and mind get diverted to the incident. However, there was a game to be played and it did resume after Stendel was rushed to the local medical facilities. At the time of the mishap, the Orioles were trailing one of their arch nemesis 1-0.

The Yankees would go on to score another run and take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Their bullpen though was unable to handle the O’s after that. The visitors notched up four runs in the sixth inning to get into a commanding position. This was just too much for a lackluster Yankees as they were unable to mount a comeback. Instead, they gave up two more runs in the ninth to lose the game 6-3.

Things got worse for the Yankees as pitcher Jimmy Cordero is now suspended for the rest of the season. He is found to have violated the league’s domestic violence policy. Despite taking the first two games against the O’s, the Yankees failed to sweep them. As a result of this, they are three games behind them in third. The NY side will need to have a strong performance if they were to turn their season around.
