Yordan Alvarez suffered shortness of breath and ended up feeling severely ill in the fifth inning of Friday’s 6-2 loss to the Braves, he was taken to the local hospital for various analyzations. He made an immediate exit from the game to be evaluated in the dressing room, which bothered his fans and his teammates.

Yordan Alvarez is now back at the ballpark and will undergo further evaluation, it’s possible he could return for Sunday’s series finale. Manager Dusty Baker said doctors weren’t able to find any cause of the breathing issues.

“Yordan is better,” Baker said. “We’ve still got to watch him. He’s under what’s similar to a concussion protocol, where you’ve got to watch him. You don’t want him to maybe fall out.

“[The doctors] couldn’t find anything, but that doesn’t mean that nothing’s wrong,” manager Dusty Baker added on Saturday. “So, we’re going to just wait today and then see how he is tomorrow. He’ll (Yordan Alvarez) probably DH tomorrow if he’s feeling all right.”

“Yordan Alvarez had shortness of breath,” Baker said in his postgame press conference Friday. “Then when they shot the fireworks off, the smoke made it worse. I’m glad we got him out when we did because I looked up, and he was in the dugout. It was kind of a scary moment because it could be anything. They said that he’s doing fine at the moment.”

Yordan Alvarez is batting .295 with 31 homers and 77 RBIs for the American League West-leading Astros, who are seeking their fourth World Series appearance in six years. He’s played 40 games in left field and 61 as the designated hitter.

A crucial injury could have hurt the Houston Astros, made a postseason run more difficult, but standing 10 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Seattle Mariners in the American League West would definitely buy Yordan Alvarez and the Astros time to get back to health or compile a backup plan.

After their series against the Braves, the Astros will face a familiar face in Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins at home.
