“It was a good run”- Zac Gallen breaks franchise record for Diamondbacks against Rockies with scoreless innings

Zac Gallen

Arizona Diamondbacks start Zac Gallen breaks the record for the most consecutive scoreless innings set by erstwhile Arizona Diamondbacks player Brandon Webb in the year 2007. Zac Gallen pitched 44 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings, the highest in Diamondbacks’ history.

Zac Gallen appears to be one of the closest to ever come to Orel Hershiser who holds the record of 59 scoreless innings with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the year 1988. Despite all the effort put in by Zac Gallen, his streak broke on Sunday’s match against the Colorado Rockies after giving up three runs.

“He’s been super encouraging. I probably wouldn’t have taken as well as he did, encouraging someone to break my record,” Gallen said of Webb. “It’s just awesome to be able to just be mentioned in the same conversations as a legend of the franchise.”

For Zac Gallen, it was all about the franchise record

It wasn’t Oriel’s record Gallen was after but rather the franchise one- “The franchise record was the one that I was most really concerned about” Gallen said.

“Oriel and 59 is a whole other stratosphere for me. I’m glad it’s over in the sense that it’s a relief. I don’t have to worry about trying to be so perfect out there. But at the same time, you may never get a shot again(at) Oriel’s record. Ultimately it was a good run.”

Zac Gallen has already proven his worth to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has a 3.08 ERA and is wrapping up on 500 strikeouts throughout his 76 career starts. In just 4 seasons and 26 years of age, this record is impeccable. Thanks to Zac the Daimondbacks are now showing some signs of better baseball in the upcoming seasons.
