Former Major League Baseball (MLB) star Alex Rodriguez aka “A-Rod” raised controversy in Miami-Dade County during a recent interview.

The 45-year-old Rodriguez, who brought down curtains to his stellar career, earned a whopping $455.2 million. He played 22 seasons and his highest single-season salary was as high as $33 million. “Let me bring it back a little bit to where I grew up right here in the hood. I grew up in a neighbourhood called, ah, Kendall. It was probably like 99 percent Latinos … right down the street you have the University of Miami,” Rodriguez said during The Pivot Podcast.

Born in NY to migrants from the Dominican Republic, Rodriguez said his mother had two jobs while he was growing up in Miami-Dade. The veteran baseball shortstop said she was a secretary during the day and served tables at night to raise him and his two half-siblings. However, his fortunes turned when he signed to the Seattle Mariners at 17.

We had to move every 18 months because they kept raising the rent,” Rodriguez told the podcast’s hosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor.
