The New York Yankees may not choose to retire Alex Rodriguez‘s number, but their level of success in the past would have been considerably lower had he not been a regular player for them. Rodriguez showed remarkable offensive abilities throughout his career, establishing himself as an accomplished player in the baseball world.

Despite spending 13 years with the Yankees, he had to intermittently pause his career due to his involvement in steroid usage. He achieved numerous MVP accolades and contributed to the team’s victory in the 2009 World Series.

Rodriguez, now 48 years old and working in the media industry where he frequently engages in dialogue, is beginning to reflect on his time with the Yankees and a crucial decision he nearly took that could have portrayed him negatively. In 2007, instead of securing a substantial new contract, Rodriguez ultimately inked a 10-year agreement worth $275 million with the Yankees.

Despite being close to them, he held a strong desire to join the Mets. There is speculation among the public regarding the implications of Pete Alonso’s decision to enlist Scott Boras about his future with the Mets. Rather than signing long contracts before the open market, Boras is renowned for persuading his clients to become free agents.

“I told my agent, Scott Boras, that I would take a 50% haircut to come play in New York with the Mets."

Last winter, the Mets made an effort to bring Alonso on board, but they failed to reach a contractual agreement. Some trade rumors began to emerge as the regular season came to a close.

David Stearns, the recently appointed boss of baseball, expressed his belief at his inaugural media event that Alonso will remain with the Mets once the season commences.

Was A-Rod’s decision to become a part of the Yankees the right move?

There cannot be a definitive answer as to whether A-Rod’s decision to join the Yankees’ was the best or not, but during his time as a Yankee, he stole the spotlight and lifted the organization to its best. Even though the MLB great showcased interest in joining Mets, the team was not financially prepared to sign Alex Rodriguez to their family.

Unfortunately, the Mets were reluctant to spend a substantial sum for his support, but Rodriguez had a strong desire to challenge Derek Jeter alongside the New York Yankees, resulting in one of the sport’s greatest rivalries. If A-Rod had joined the Mets in 2007 then the baseball world may have witnessed one of the best rivalries on the field.

A-Rod’s hopes were dashed as his agent, Scott Boras, concentrated on maximizing his monetary gain. Boras assisted Rodriguez in obtaining a groundbreaking contract in the realm of American sports, not once, but on two separate occasions.

On the other hand, Rodriguez’s career with the Yankees will proceed, involving 1,509 games played, 351 home runs, and 1,096 RBIs. Moreover, he maintains a batting average of .283, with an on-base percentage (OBP) of .378, a slugging percentage of .523, and an OPS (On-base plus slugging) of .900.

The recent signings, particularly Giancarlo Stanton, have the potential to bring the Yankees similar results. Rodriguez enjoyed remarkable achievements and triumphs throughout his job until his final year in 2016 when he reached 40 years old.

Eight years ago, he ended his baseball career and is currently thriving in the media industry. Despite experiencing some sadness about various matters, one of his greatest letdowns is the Yankees’ failure to retire his jersey number.
