Islam Makhachev is undoubtedly one of the most popular fighters on the current UFC roster. The pound-for-pound king is a complete fighter with incredible wrestling and competitive striking prowess. On top of that, Makhachev is known for his ability to evolve and the fighter has now successfully taken a few moves from Jon Jones’s book of martial arts. 

Jon Jones has been a dominant force in MMA for over a decade, renowned for his exceptional fight IQ and athletic ability. Among his most devastating techniques is his signature spinning elbow. Recently, a viral video surfaced showing Islam Makhachev honing the same move, sparking excitement and speculation among fight fans.

Jones was incredible on the ground which created a sense of a wrestling threat for his fans. As a result, the fighter used to fake a takedown before landing the spinning elbow. It was a vicious move which if connected did major damage to the opponents. Jones always liked using his elbows for striking, which made him a threat in close distance and clinches.

Similarly to ‘Bones’, Makhachev is unstoppable when it comes to wrestling, which is perfect for setting up that spinning elbow. The Dagestani star has mastered his striking in the last few bouts, and has the potential to become a double champion. Fans are eager to see him make his UFC return as soon as possible.

Fight fans react to Islam Makhachev learning Jon Jones’s spinning elbow move

Islam Makhachev, in his last outing, destroyed Renato Moicano in the very first round. After the win, the fighter made it clear he was ready for anybody that the UFC put in front of him. The Dagestani wants to get the double champion status before leaving the UFC, and Dana White is well aware of that.

Many believe that Makhachev can potentially win the 170 lbs belt. However, with Belal Muhammad as the champion, things are looking a little far-fetched. Nevertheless, Makhachev’s coach has also talked about the fighter moving up to the middleweight division in search of a second title. Nevertheless, here are some reactions to Makhachev’s recent viral video. 

As expected, fans were excited about Islam Makhachev’s new move and immediately recognized the Jon Jones reference. Others joked about how the lightweight champion doesn’t even need these new moves, given his skillful arsenal. Many mentioned the featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, who might be the next one to fight Makhachev in a super fight.
