There exists an age-long debate regarding which has the better or tougher fighters – Boxing or MMA. This debate remains even more messy on social media. Ardent fans from both arts very passionately defend their favorite combat sport. One such clip of a boxer and an MMA fighter has recently surfaced on social media.
The video showed two young men debating whether the boxer could take a leg kick. Kicks are some of the most effective weapons MMA artists have in their arsenal. This is a department where a boxer completely lacked experience. “You think you can take a leg kick Dom?” the man recording the video asked. “See these legs. I can handle it,” the boxer replied. The MMA fighter shook his head at this statement, knowing what would follow would not be great for the boxer.
Both fighters revealed their weight classes. The MMA fighter is the lighter of the two, fighting at around 155 lbs. Meanwhile, the boxer fought at 203 lbs. They put a pad on the boxer’s thigh as everybody got ready to witness if he could handle a kick. Meanwhile, the videographer asked if he had ever taken a leg kick. “Never,” came the reply, and everybody around him started chuckling, knowing what would happen next.
One swift and powerful leg kicks to the pad, and the boxer starts to limp and curse. He immediately took the pad off and refused to attempt the stunt again. This video caught the eyes of the combat sports community on social media. Many ardent fans commented on the video, debating on what this proved. The debate between a boxer and an MMA fighter previously sparked when Joe Rogan made a comparison between WBC champion Tyson Fury and UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Netizens react to the video of an MMA fighter leg kicking a boxer
While there were many naysayers, many dismissed boxing as a more effective sport than MMA. Some defended boxing and justified the result of the video, sharing their perspective in the comments. Here are some of the reactions from X ( previously known as Twitter):
The winner in a matchup between an MMA fighter and a boxer largely depends on the context and rules of the fight. MMA fighters have the edge in a mixed martial arts setting, while boxers excel in traditional boxing matches. The outcome of a fight between a boxer and an MMA fighter can vary. However, in a pure boxing match, the boxer has the edge over MMA fighters 90 percent of the time.
