Demetrious Johnson is one of the names that come up in the conversation of the GOAT discussion in MMA. In a recent interview with The Schmo, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson discussed several intriguing topics outside American Top Team Las Vegas.

Johnson recently came under scrutiny for his statement that MMA was the easiest combat sport to become a world champion in. Might Mouse clarified his statement to Schmo and proved his statement by citing the example of Ben Askren. He said, ” You look at Ben Askren. He was a world champion in MMA and he doesn’t have, you know. I feel comfortable saying that Ben Askren is a perfect example, saying that he has huge deficiencies on his standup and he became world champion and defended the title multiple times.”

“Mighty Mouse” is currently signed with One Championship and is the current 135-pound champion in the promotion. In his previous two bouts, he defeated Adriano Moraes. Moraes has the accomplishment of being the only fighter to KO/TKO Johnson in an MMA bout.

Johnson had one of the best runs as the UFC’s flyweight champion. He still holds the record for the most title defenses, most title defenses at flyweight, and most consecutive title defenses in UFC history with 11. Johnson departed UFC following a split decision loss to Henry Cejudo at UFC 227.

Merab Dvalishvili should fight for the title according to Demetrious Johnson

In his latest interview with The Schmo in Las Vegas, Demetrious Johnson was asked about who should be the first title defense for Sean O’Malley. Johnson was of the opinion that Merab Dvalishvili was the rightful contender to fight for the title.

After the victory over Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292, Sean O’Malley called out Marlon Vera. The callout of Vera was deemed good by Demetrious Johnson. He clarified that having a good back story is good for fight promotion. However, he voiced out that winning streaks should hold more relevance. Merab Dvalishvili is on a nine-fight win streak.

Johnson was the reason for the introduction of the flyweight division. He was the inaugural champion at flyweight and held the belt for more than 2,000 days. He was days short of beating the record of Anderson Silva but the loss against Henry Cejudo dampened that chance.
