“Can’t make 125” – Demetrious Johnson states he isn’t interested in fighting at 125 pounds again for this reason

The current One Flyweight champion and the former UFC champion, Demetrious Johnson is regarded as the best Flyweight on this planet. After a dominant run in the UFC Might Mouse packed his bag for Asia and is currently ruling the Flyweight division in One Championship.
After making his professional MMA debut in 2007, DJ made a name for himself in the UFC. In his early days with the promotion, he competed in the Bantamweight division as there wasn’t a Flyweight division back then. The UFC Flyweight division was started in UFC in 2012.
Mighty Mouse defeated Joseph Benavidez at UFC 152 on 22 September 2012 to capture the inaugural UFC Flyweight Champion. After defending successfully defended the title 11 times. He holds the UFC record for the most title defence in a single title reign. His reign come to an end after losing a controversial decision to Henry Cejudo, DJ then packed his bag for Asia.
Johnson was traded for Ben Askren, with ONE championship back in 2018. He went on to capture the 125lbs crown after dropping it against Adriano Moraes via KO in 2021. However, in the rematch, Demetrious took his revenge and snatched the title back from the Brazilian in the same fashion last weekend.
Demetrious Johnson isn’t willing to Jeopradize his health fighting at Flyweight
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, ‘Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson discussed his epic flying knee revenge over Adriano Moraes, how the KO went viral and if he considers himself the best Flyweight on the planet. While on the topic he also revealed that he isn’t willing to fight at 125lbs due to health reasons.
When asked if he considers himself the best Flyweight on the planet, DJ said that it’s up to the people to decide and further stated, “For me like, You know? I’ve said it in the past before, I don’t think I can make 125 right? Like I know I could but do I want to do it? Absolutely not! I don’t think it would be healthy for me.”
“I don’t want to jeopardize my kidney, my liver. So, I don’t put myself in the category with Pantoja, Figurerdo, Moreno all those guys.” The Flyweight champion said. “I put myself in the category with [bantamweights like] Aljamain Sterling, Petr Yan, Sugar Sean O’Malley, and Dominick Cruz.” He further added.
Demetrious concluded by stating, “I’m not weighing at 125 pounds, I can’t make it anymore. I don’t want to make it anymore, I shouldn’t say I can’t. So for me, I see myself as a Bantamweight here in America and over in Asia, it’s Flyweight. Like I said I just leave it up to public, for me I’m the champ, I just leave it at that.”
