The MMA world is a constant reminder of how the combination of hard work, determination and belief is a surefire way to not only get to the top but also scale the heights that any disadvantage would have ordinarily stopped.
Such is the case with Zion Clark, a wrestler hailing from Kent State University, who, born without legs, did not let his impediment stop him from doing what he truly wished to – that is fighting in an MMA bout. Taking on Eugene Murray, in the bantamweight division, under the Gladiator Challenge banner, the American was able to curry the judges’ favour in accordance with his outstanding performance, to get the decision nod.
The moment of his name being called out as the winner of the bout is extremely telling – no doubt, Zion Clark has had a lot to endure to not only get to the highest echelons of wrestling but also now, to MMA. Hence, the look of joy on his face and the exultation from the crowd captures the delight being witnessed firsthand.
Despite choosing to break into tiffs online every second day (as with Nate Diaz, recently), Conor McGregor still remains attached to the sport that brought so much to him in life, and always, speaks his mind about it. Applauding Clark’s monumental achievement, he tweeted, “Absolutely fascinating to hear about this man’s debut and now see it. Lighting entry on the low single. Wow! You should not connect to him in any shape or form. Frames only. Frame to strike. Fascinating! Congrats and so much respect to that man Zion Clark! Mma is the best sport!”

Without a doubt, this is a shameful display by the MMA community. For a community that champions itself on the basis of its diversity and inclusion, comments like these really are a step in the wrong direction. However, that takes nothing away from Clark, and his admirable achievement in the sport.
