Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez was denied glory at BKFC 56, on Saturday. The opponent, Mike Perry, formerly of UFC as well, went on to secure a humongous win against Alvarez. In two thunderous rounds, “Platinum” Perry dished out a vicious onslaught. Alvarez, and his corner, had to thus call for a stoppage at round two.
With the win over Alvarez, Perry now stands at 4-0 in BKFC. Thereafter, the bare-knuckle sensation went on to once again call out to Conor McGregor. Consequently, he has also wished for a fight against Anthony Pettis in bare-knuckle, amongst others. Speaking at the BKFC 56 post-event news conference, Alvarez said:
I’m not a hundred percent sure when he landed the shot that he landed, but I remember maybe midway through the second, I felt my eye shutting and closing up on me. Then when I sat down, I went to open my mouth a little bit, and I think my orbital is smashed up.
The former UFC and Bellator champion also weighed in on what it means to compete as a bare-knuckle fighter. He said that this particular combat sport “is not for the athletes.” While you can get by being an athlete in boxing supposedly, Alvarez thinks that here, it gets much more hardcore.
The fighter also reflected upon his efforts, with no lack of esteem or confidence. He mentioned moving up a weight and daring to face off with Perry. Now with a 1-1 record in two appearances with the BKFC this year, Alvarez isn’t sure what comes next. But he said he plans to continue with the promotion.
Mike Perry earns a million for his fourth slot bare-knuckle fight, at par with UFC career
Mike Perry recently earned the title of “King of Violence” after defeating Eddie Alvarez, in the headlining event of BKFC 56. The 14-8-0 welterweight last fought at the UFC, in 2021. He took his exit after suffering back-to-back unanimous decision skids.
His last loss was to Daniel Rodriguez, in April of 2021. In a somewhat illustrated career at the promotion, he reportedly earned an estimated $1.3 million.
In his fourth match at BKFC 56, however, the fighter made a whooping $1.1 Million; which is subsequently and exponentially more than his whole UFC tenure. This has caught on much flack from the fans of the sporting community.
Some have even gone on to comment that Perry and the bare-knuckle fight was thus a match made in heaven. With a 4-0 record and two resulting opponent stoppage requests, Perry is on a high horse with the promotion.
In line with the running sentiment of UFC not caring enough for fighters, fans have also invoked the recent exits of many. They have also brought on the instance of the recent PFL-Bellator merger. Many fighters from the UFC have subsequently transitioned to these other promotions as such. Derek Brunson and Francis Ngannou are some of the few big names that come to mind.
