Professional boxer and media star Jake Paul catches some heat due to his recent comments. Delving into topics like Logan Paul, Dillon Danis, and others, Paul casually touched upon his loss against Tommy Fury. Soon after, fans bombarded him with messages online.
“I knew I wasn’t focused into the Tommy fight. I was like…drinking, like 7 weeks before,” said Paul in an interview on the Full Send Podcast. He also mentioned that it sounds stupid to say it out loud. Paul also hopes others don’t follow suit. “And sure enough, I like lost because of that, ” he said, attributing this for his loss to Fury.
Paul had long been waiting for a challenge in terms of a real boxer. This came in the form of Fury, brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. During the matchup, Paul put up a good effort, knocking Fury down in the eighth round. Unsurprisingly, Fury having the more aggressive punches won by split decision. One judge scored it 75-74 to Paul, with the other two scoring it 76-73 to Fury.
Post-match an emotional Fury mentioned how dedicated he was for the fight. Meanwhile, the nonchalant Paul has had to face the wrath of fans. Fury now has won all 9 of his professional bouts.
Jake Paul takes the fight to Tommy Fury beyond the scope of fighting in a new tweet
Jake Paul targeted an old tweet from Fury this September. Back in 2021, Paul took to name-calling when Fury had to pull out of their fight. The slated match did happen in early 2023, with Paul losing. This time, however, is a whole other story of vindication. Paul chose to unload insults on Fury’s old tweet from 2022, where he announced he was expecting a baby.
In a play on words, Paul unabashedly said that Fury usually pulls out in response to the tweet from Fury. The much anticipated 2021 showdown between Paul and Fury began after heated exchanges over social media. This was followed by a chance encounter when Paul defeated Tyron Woodley in September 2021. Following this, Fury presented X-rays of his broken ribs, notwithstanding criticisms. That, along with the chest infection, is why he pulled out, explained Fury. Unsurprisingly, Paul remained skeptical.
In an earlier interview, Fury’s elder brother Tyson Fury had said that his brother would undoubtedly win. Even with the flu and his broken ribs. The 10-round cruiserweight bout was planned twice before but never happened, spanning back to 2021. The match finally took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2023, with Fury coming out as the victor.
