Yoel Romero is a formidable man. When not terrorizing his opponents within the cage, he aims his jibe at them and creates this visceral aura of fear.

This week, before his Bellator fight against Melvin Manhoef, he proclaimed himself the best middleweight on the planet, saying to MMA fighting, “My goals are to the champion at 185 and 205. That’s what’s in front of me and what I want to accomplish. I’m the best in the world at 185. I’m eager to come back to that division, and it’s my first love. It’s a division where everything started, so how could I not want to fight in that division?”

There can be an argument for and against this statement by Yoel Romero. Clearly, the fans have also had their say on what they think of this statement, and how he compares to other middleweights, especially Israel Adesanya. One MMA fan on Twitter, wrote, “Yoel Romero at 44 years of age, is still finishing fights whilst Israel Adesanya is leg kicking his way to boring decisions. My MW champion.” Under this post, there was a retort that read, “Adesanya is fighting good competition though.”

There were other Tweets as well, which talked about Yoel Romero, and his claim of being the best middleweight on the planet. “Melvin’s pre roll footage was about his last days in the sport while izzy is facing people in the most important fight of their careers.”, “Yoel Romero has mastered the art of looking good in a MMA octagon. The casuals love it, the analytics guys love it, I see through it. He is not elite in any sense of the word. He is closer to a Sam Alvey than a Israel Adesanya. A 4/10 on his very best day. Overrated.”, were some of the tweets that argued for against his claim to being the greatest middleweight.

Scott Coker, the CEO of Bellator has expressed his approval of Yoel Romero’s glorious performance against Melvin Manhoef at light heavyweight today, in Dublin. Clearly, the crowd were loving it as much as everyone watching from behind the screens.

Although Scott Coker really likes a light heavyweight Yoel Romero, he has confirmed that he will not stand in his way to returning to 185 pounds in a bid to capture both the belts. He said, “If you look at him, he looks in shape. He looks calm. He’s a beast. I think he looks good at 205. If he really wants to cut and make the weight, that’s going to be up to him.”

Continuing on about his move down, he said, “We’ll figure out with his management who was here today and they’ve already started talking in my ear about making the 185 run. If he’s serious about it, then we’d definitely consider it.”

Yoel Romero rises to Number 7 in the light heavyweight division with the decisive victory over Melvin Manhoef. At the top of food chain is 15-2 Vadim Nemkov. If Yoel Romero does indeed want to challenge for the belt at middleweight, he’ll have to face formidable opposition in the likes of Fabian Edwards, Gegard Mousasi and champion Johnny Eblen.
