MMA fighters always go for knockouts. This is because knockouts make the fighters fan favorites, making them big stars. Conor McGregor became the star he is due to his propensity to knock his opponents out. As per the rules of MMA, only the referee has the power to stop the fight and declare a victor. Sometimes, a lapse in judgment from a referee will result in unnecessary damage for a knocked-out fighter. Some fighters refuse to add follow-up shots to knock out opponents.
Recently, a clip of a Sambo match went viral on social media. The fighter added a follow-up shot in the match even after his opponent was out cold. The fight was between a fighter with a red headgear and a blue one. The fight began with both kicking each other. One landed a body kick whilst the other landed a kick on the thigh. It was the fighter with red headgear that landed the body kick. The blue headgear fighter caught the kick and landed a right straight. After the right straight landed, the red headgear fighter landed a flying head kick with his left leg as his opponent did not let go of his right leg.

As the head kick landed, both fell with the blue headgear fighter out cold. The referee did not stop the fight at this point. Therefore, the victor hit a follow-up shot at the unresponsive fighter and proceeded to celebrate. The referee could not wake up the loser and called the medical team to save the fighter.
The knockout was similar to the knockout of Impa Kasanganay by Joaquin Buckley. However, Buckley did not go for follow-up shots. Recently, Khalil Rountree Jr. did not go for follow-up shots against Anthony Smith in their light heavyweight fight.
