Entrepreneur Elon Musk is a well-respected figure in the modern day. He is known for his work in companies such as SpaceX, Tesla Motors, and PayPal. His passion for establishing a habitat on Mars and transforming transport facilities have cemented him as a genius. Musk has also won several awards and landed himself in Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the World. As of recent, his Twitter acquisition has been the most famous business decision he has ever taken.

In late October 2022, it had been official that Elon Musk is the CEO of the American social media platform Twitter. This garnered huge publicity for Musk. Amidst the praises, came an abundance of criticism. Elon’s goal in acquiring Twitter was to have free speech on the forum. Prior to his ownership, users would get banned for posting racist, homophobic, or misinformation. Since Musk got his hands on the platform, he decided to not ban users and provide everyone with free speech.

Another decision that got him into trouble was making the verification mark a pay-to-use feature. On Twitter, a person who is well known usually gets verified so that people know this is their real account. This was implemented to avoid fake accounts being created for famous people. But, Musk decided to turn it into a pay-to-use feature. This means that a person has to pay for the blue tick verification mark that makes their account official.

Elon Musk is under fire on all different social media platforms. The reason for the criticisms arises from Elon’s idea of removing the blue tick verification mark from previously verified accounts. It is now mandatory for Twitter users to pay to possess the blue tick beside their name in the profile. Musk’s previous decisions regarding Twitter has also had him recieve a lot of hate.

A lot of celebrities, politicians and even fighters called out Elon Musk for his business decision. Since there are plenty of fake accounts created of famous people by fans or trolls, it is harder for the real account. The verification service made it easier for fans to identify this. With Elon’s new decision, the fake accounts will now garner attention from fans who are unaware. Fighters like Stephen Thompson and Gilbert Burns had a go at the CEO.

CEO of Twitter Elon Musk is yet to respond to the backlash. Since his Twitter ownership, he has been criticized by a vocal minority in the influencer and also the political space. Musk’s Twitter consists of right-wing adjacent tweets which opened up the gate for reactionaries to praise the CEO.
