“Can’t leave fans like that” – Rampage Jackson promises a feel-good end to his LEGENDARY career

Rampage Jackson

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will always be a fan favorite. But, it’s been a while since he showcased what drew MMA fans to watch him over the years. Most recently, “Rampage” got bested and brutally knocked out by MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.

Jackson has become associated with brands like Triller and Bellator – albeit, in the capacity of fan or ringside teammate, but not a fighter himself. The knockout, which had “Rampage” sprawled on the floor, is now embedded in the minds of fans, for better or for worse.

“Rampage” Jackson is a household name for any MMA fan that joined during the first decade of the 21st century, and he’s known lovingly for a couple of things that make up his persona – among them, chief, his heavy hands; secondly, his previously hostile, but now amicable relationship with probably the most famous MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani.

Jackson and Helwani have had their moments together, both heated and friendly. For instance, one only needs to jog their memory back about a decade, when “Rampage” infamously showed Helwani the finger when asked about the nature of his injury and the expected lay-off.

There is no way of escaping time, and age. It gets the best of fighters, and Quinton Jackson is no exception to the rule. “Rampage” beat another fan-favorite in the “Iceman” Chuck Liddell, to claim the Light Heavyweight title, back in 2007. The first-round KO ensured Rampage Jackson’s candidature as king of the pile. Although everything seemed good, Jackson revealed later that he felt like “a hog going to the slaughter” when he beat Liddell. The reason for this was that all-time fan-favorite Liddell wanted to avenge his loss to “Rampage”, that he had endured under the banner of PRIDE.

Rampage Jackson has had a spectacular career – after beating Chuck, he unified the PRIDE and the UFC Light Heavyweight titles. He has also defeated the likes of Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, Lyoto Machida, and Ryan Bader.

Jackson possesses a 37-12 record, with the significant losses coming only to the most high-profile, top-of-the-pile fighters like Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. After leaving the UFC in 2016, “Rampage” settled his contract dispute and returned to Bellator. Losing to Fedor in 2019 would not have been something that Jackson would have wanted, coupled with, not getting re-signed to the promotion.

Having faced adversity at the end of his career, “Rampage” said, “I ain’t done. I’m not happy with the performance in my last fight. I can’t leave MMA fans like that…I’m going to leave this sport a little bit better.”

Being associated with Triller, a fight between him and Shannon Briggs, two-time boxing heavyweight champion has always been on the cards, but never really materialized. Could it be that the hard-hitter enters a boxing ring, or will he drag Briggs into unfamiliar waters onto his turf? The future is yet to be written, and whatever happens, “Rampage” will forever be part of a golden UFC era.
