“Needs UFC contract” – The MMA Community reacts to Usman Nurmagomedov’s DOMINANT lightweight title win over Patricky Pitbull in Bellator
Usman Nurmagomedov (in grey) wins the lightweight belt against Patricky Pitbull (L) at Bellator 288
The world witnessed Islam Makhachev completely dismantle Charles Oliveira in their UFC 280 main event title fight. Going into the fight, Makhachev was the favourite, but the manner in which the Russian was able to neutralize Oliveira’s ground threat was simply sublime.
Islam Makhachev is the second lightweight champion that we have seen arrive out of Dagestan. The first was the absolutely indomitable Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is the only UFC champion, active or retired, to have an undefeated record. Such was the manner in which the Russian ran through the division. Now, yet another Dagestani champion has emerged, albeit, in the lightweight division of Bellator.
Usman Nurmagomedov, who fights out of the same camp as Khabib Nurmagomedov (and is also his cousin!), has just defeated Patricky Pitbull at Bellator 288 to win the lightweight title. It is to be noted that Pitbull is no slouch, having previously defeated AJ McKee for the title.
Despite the young age of 24, Nurmagomedov’s win was no fluke – he completely outclassed Pitbull, with the fight ending on the judges’ scorecards; 50-45, 50-44 and 50-44. Interestingly, in contrast to Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Usman Nurmagomedov’s gameplan revolves more around striking than grappling. What is not in opposition to his more famous counterparts is that he has become a champion without a single loss on his resume.

MMA Twitter reacts to YET ANOTHER Dagestani champion at the helm of the lightweight division in a major promotion
If nothing else, the Dagestani crew has really stamped its authority on MMA, and the lightweight division in particular. And, fans were quick to point that out on Twitter. Interestingly, while some MMA fans believe he’s ready for the big leagues, some voiced their opinions at this being yet another hype job. Find the best tweets below.
Whatever be their opinion, fans cannot argue against the legitimacy of the Dagestani’s title win against an elite opponent like Patricky Pitbull. If keeps up this record, he might just find himself in the upper echelons of the UFC very soon.
