In Short
  • Mohammad Rizwan faced sledging from Bangladeshi players during the Sylhet Test after a confrontation with Litton Das.
  • Bangladesh achieved a historic 2-0 Test series sweep against Pakistan, marking their first home series victory over them.
  • Litton Das was named Player of the Match for his century, while Mushfiqur Rahim received Player of the Series honors.

During the fourth day of the Sylhet Test, an argument between Mohammad Rizwan and Litton Das turned into a bout of banter aimed at the 33-year-old batter. Subsequently, several Bangladeshi fielders joined in to sledge Rizwan in a surprising turn of events.

The final Test saw Pakistan face off against Bangladesh at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, where the hosts clinched a historic 78-run victory. The Tigers had already taken a 1-0 lead in the series, following their 104-run win in the opening Test. The outcome of the series would be determined by the tense events on the fourth day of the second Test, which unexpectedly changed the mood of the game.

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan scored his second fifty while attempting to anchor the chase in the final innings as his team faced a massive target of 437 runs. It was in the 72nd over that a hilarious on-field banter unfolded. Taijul Islam was about to release the ball when Rizwan, batting on 52, abruptly pulled out of his stance. He pointed towards the sight-screen, complaining about sudden movement in the area.

Feeling Rizwan was deliberately wasting time, Bangladesh wicket-keeper Litton Das walked up from behind the stumps to confront the Pakistani veteran. The fiery exchange between the two players was recorded on the stump mic, where Das was caught asking Rizwan what he was up to.

The 33-year-old, pointing to the sight-screen, claimed a person was standing there. In response, a frustrated Das urged his Pakistani opponent to focus on his batting, even suggesting he should get out if he was having issues.

Litton Das: Yeh kya kar rhe ho? [What are you doing?]

Mohammad Rizwan: Woh dekh wo dekh wo khada hai. [Look, look, he’s standing right there.]

Litton Das: Udhar kya dekh rahe ho? Idhar batting karo. [Why are you looking over there? Focus on your batting here.]

Das went a step further, commenting that Rizwan started to act after reaching the fifty-run milestone, which prompted his Bangladesh teammates to join in. One fielder was captured saying that he would deduct ‘50 paise’ for the right-hander’s ‘overacting’. Another player sarcastically encouraged the batter to join ‘Bollywood’, while another wittily countered that he wouldn’t be able to secure a spot there.

A similar incident of on-field sledging had also occurred in the first Test, where Das appeared to make fun of Rizwan’s ‘reputation’. The right-hander, however, remained unfettered throughout the second Test, as he scored 94 runs to take Pakistan close, before being dismissed by Shoriful Islam.

Bangladesh achieves historic feat with consecutive Test series sweep against Pakistan

In the second and final Test in Sylhet, Bangladesh was bowled out for a mere 278 runs in the first innings. Litton Das top-scored with 126 runs, as pacers Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas ripped through their batting order. Pakistan, however, could only manage 232 runs, with Babar Azam’s 68 being the only major contribution. For the home side, Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam picked up three wickets each.

With a narrow 46-run lead over the visitors, Bangladesh then scored 390 in the second innings, thanks to Mushfiqur Rahim’s 137 and Litton Das’ 69. Chasing a massive 437-run target, Pakistan had more than a day’s time in hand, but finished with 358 in the end, with fifties being scored by Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, and Salman Ali Agha. In bowling, Islam finished with remarkable figures of 6/120.

Litton Das earned the Player of the Match award for hitting a century and a half-century across both innings. Meanwhile, veteran Rahim was named Player of the Series after for scoring 253 runs across four innings at an average of 63.25.
