After a bye in the first round, Zverev ,the fifth seed, finally took the field in the second round, and his opponent was Lorenzo Sonego. Sonego was just coming off a trophy win and expectations were high from him. But Zverev just bullied him throughout the match. Hitting deep returns, and forcing Sonego to make returns which he wouldn’t have otherwise. Hitting Sonego with passing shots on both flanks. In the end Zverev won in straight sets, 6-3 6-3.

His opponent in the third round is David Goffin. Goffin started the tournament with a tough match against Marin Cilic. Goffin took the early set, but Cilic came back quickly to win the second set. The third set was one sided traffic as Goffin sealed the set and the match, 6-4 3-6 6-0. In the second round he had a comparatively easier match against Marco Cecchinato. The Italian has been in terrible form, and gave up the fight in two sets, losing 6-4 6-0.
