Motera stadium has been renamed Narendra Modi Stadium. The news came minutes ahead of the third Test between India and England at this venue.

The newly built stadium that will host its first-ever international match, was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind ahead of the pink ball Test between India and England. Besides, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju and the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah were also there at the inaugural ceremony.

The stadium which was known as the Motera Stadium just a while ago boasts of the world’s largest cricket stadium with a seating capacity of 1,32,000.

The ground is slightly different from the others. It is built in an oval shape, unlike the other grounds, which are built round in shape. The idea of such construction is that the size of the boundary remains the same irrespective of the pitch on which a match is being played.

In addition, the in-stadium crowd would get the best view of the match, irrespective of their ticket price. The seating is built in a way that it ensures that every fan would be able to have the best view possible, and this privilege is not the case with just the expensive ticket holders.

Provisions for the massive crowd departure have even been accounted for. The provision of a big ramp that has been done so that the entire crowd capacity can leave the stadium within 30 minutes.

The swanky stadium is known to have a total of 11 pitches on the ground — six are of red soil and five of black soil.
