The Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad which was renamed as Narendra Modi Stadium today has had its bowling ends named as ‘Reliance End’ and ‘Adani End’. The renaming after the current Prime Minister of India was done today ahead of the third test between India and England which is also the first stadium the new stadium is hosting. The stadium was inaugurated by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Also present in the stadium were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

The third test of the four-match series between India and England which is currently all square at 1-1 and is hugely important in the context of the qualification for the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) is currently underway with the visitors winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

After the renaming of the stadium was announced and the name of the ends were announced, the same started trending on Twitter. Here are a few such reactions.

The practice of naming stadiums after politicians is not new in India. There are a lot of stadiums named after the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi. Fans who reacted on Twitter pointed this out as well and stated as to how now stadiums are being named after living persons.
