‘In the 2020/2021 season I hit rock bottom,’ Marc Marquez reveals he considered retirement after horrific crash

Marc Marquez
Marc Marquez has to be one of the riders who have been able to live up to the immense expectations that the world had put on him at a tender age. But he hasn’t let that get to him and has been prolific throughout his career.
We are well aware of the abundant talent he possesses but his mentality is that of a warrior. That can be substantiated by the duels with the Doctor, Valentino Rossi. He was just a rookie at that time when Rossi ruled the sport. But that didn’t faze Marquez who gave Rossi a run for his money and at times got the better off him.
He showed the same fighting mentality after his crash at Jerez when it looked all done and dusted and even considered retiring from Moto GP. That was one of the times when the eight time world champion was tested psychologically in this testing period. In an honest interview, he accepted how difficult it was for him to prepare himself to get back up.
Marc Marquez optimistic but realistic at the same time about his return to Moto GP

Marc Marquez said, “In the 2020/2021 season I hit rock bottom. With double vision, I couldn’t do anything because I got dizzy. In fact, the doctor, after the operation, told me that it was a miracle I recovered my sight.”
“The DNA is not lost, when I lose it I will have to end my career… And that happened to me this winter, I thought about not racing again because there were real options for that to happen. The doctor gave me options and the third one was: My eyesight will probably be fine to live a normal life, but you won’t be able to go 250 kilometres per hour on a motorbike,” Marquez explained as reported by MotoGP.
But he has been able to shrug off those thoughts and has been able to return to Moto GP with a bang as he enjoyed a successful pre season and has his sights on the season opener which shall take place in Qatar. He’s also optimistic that he shouldn’t get carried away and should stay in the moment if he wants to reach the top again.
