“48 points is too much,” Enea Bastianini skeptical about his title chances despite Aragon GP victory

Last week, fans got to witness an enthralling AragonGP where a dramatic start and an equally dramatic finish sent the fans into a rampage. Ducati went on to achieve a 1-2 finish. Although it wasn’t an all factory top 2 as Enea Bastianini went on to win the race with Pecco Bagnaia finish right behind him. It was a duel to the finish between the two future teammates and it was one worth watching.

Both Enea Bastianini and Pecco Bagnaia have an equal amount of race wins (4) in the 2022 MotoGP season whereas the former grabbed his 4th win and prevented the Factory Ducati rider from achieving his 5th win in a row this season. With the championship dialling down to the last few races, Pecco Bagnaia is feeling confident about winning the championship. Although this isn’t the case with the Gresini rider who seemed to have his doubts on the chances that he had.

It was Bastianini’s 4th victory this season which put him close to under 50 points behind Fabio Quartararo. The French rider’s Yamaha seems to have been very weak in the ending stages compared to the Ducati’s who have been absolute beasts all around. With 5 races remaining in the 2022 season, it is all to play for the young gun. Here is what he had to say about his position in the title battle.

He further went on to give us a detailed view. “Pecco, and the other Ducati riders, are so fast, but Pecco has his strongest points like me, we’re riding the same bikes and to overtake him is really difficult but this time I won,” he said.

“48 points is too much to close the gap, for me, but I want to continue in this direction and be competitive in the last part of the championship. Let’s see what happens race by race, but I have a good setup for the future,” he continued.

Enea Bastianini had recently been announced as a factory rider for the Ducati team for 2023 alongside Pecco Bagnaia against whom he won a duel in the Aragon GP. It’s safe to say that the team will have two worthy and capable riders next season. Although there is always a possibility of things escalating between the teammates so that is what we will be on the lookout for next year.
