Álex Crivillé states that Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro are the two clear favourites to win the 2022 MotoGP title
Fabio Quartararo, Álex Crivillé and Aleix Espargaro
Spanish racing legend Álex Crivillé is the first Spaniard to win a 500cc Grand Prix and, in 1999 he became the first Spaniard to win the 500cc World Championship. The 2022 British Grand Prix was filled with drama and action yet the championship status of the top 2 riders remained unchained. This being mainly due to Fabio Quartararo finishing right in front of title rival Aleix Espargaro. Both the riders displayed a sub optimal performance due to various reasons where they weren’t the root cause of their race result.
After the 12th race of the season, the points gap between the Yamaha rider and the Aprilia rider increased from 21 to 22 points. Fabio Quartararo had little to no pace to fight with the top runners while Aleix Espargaro was suffering from an injury from FP4 which didn’t leave him in the best condition to compete in the British Grand Prix. Álex Crivillé had a few thoughts to share on who will be the favourites to win the title this year.
“If ‘El Diablo’ and Aleix manage those points well, they will be the two who will be playing for the world title” :Álex Crivillé
“The Italian completed a great race and won with authority at Silverstone, even though Maverick Viñales pushed him until the end. In the fight for the MotoGP World Championship title, I still think Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro are the two clear favourites. Pecco Bagnaia is 49 points off the lead with eight races remaining and 200 points at stake. If ‘El Diablo’ and Aleix manage those points well, they will be the two who will be playing for the world title,” he said.
Fabio Quartararo is currently leading the championship while Aleix Espargaro is a close second. Ducati Factory rider Pecco Bagnaia is currently third and on a chase for the title. The Italian has won the past two races and is going for his third win in a row . The rider has gathered a total of four wins this season and is in line to win the title if the top 2 keep making mistakes.
