Fabio Quartararo claims Long Lap is ‘in a dangerous place,’ says Ducati aero resembles ‘Fast and Furious’ during the 2022 British GP weekend
Fabio Quartararo
Reigning World Champion Fabio Quartararo will be serving a long lap penalty this weekend for the British Grand Prix. The penalty was given to the French rider for his antics in the Dutch Grand Prix which was the last race before the summer break. The French rider dove down the inside and came into contact with direct title rival Aleix Espargaro who had to go very wide in order to take evasive action. This ruined any chances of the Aprilia rider winning the race and the stewards deemed that this incident was worthy of a penalty.
Fabio Quartararo was seen practising the Long Lap multiple times during yesterday’s session to prepare for the race where he will have to serve a long lap penalty. This penalty has to be served during the opening 3 laps of the British Grand Prix. While Joan Mir felt that the long lap was too short, Fabio Quartararo had a different opinion.

“It’s a Long Lap so it’s long, but in the end it is not so bad” : Fabio Quartararo on the long lap at the Silverstone circuit.
“It’s a Long Lap so it’s long, but in the end it is not so bad. I will not say that you don’t lose time because of course you lose time and you lose more metres. But you don’t need to be so precise like in Barcelona where the Long Lap is really long. You lose quite a lot. I will not say how much, but you lose quite a lot” he said.
“I need to make it in the beginning and I hope not to make it so much in the beginning because it’s quite a dangerous place to get back on the track. I think it’s something quite important,” the Factory Yamaha rider continued.
“Of course, it’s a small advantage for me, but for the safety I think it is quite difficult. I hope they will not put it straight away from the first lap but maybe the second or third lap. “I don’t need to get crazy about this. I just need to make the Long Lap and two laps more will not change.” When asked how much he practised the Long Lap, the Yamaha rider added: “Every time there was a yellow flag and every time I was missing a lap. I think five or six times today.”
Whenever Fabio Quartararo attempted to take the loop during the practice sessions, it could be seen that the Yamaha rider was losing more than a second during his attempts. This just proves that Silverstone’s loop is a bit friendlier to the riders compared to other circuits. The French rider hopes that he won’t be forced to take the long lap loop on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix as it will be dangerous according to him.
“It looks a bit like Fast and Furious” : Fabio Quartararo on Ducati’s new aero
During the last few minutes of the FP2 session, Gresini Racing rider Enea Bastianini was spotted sporting the new aero parts at the rear of his 2022 challenger. “It looks fun, it looks a bit like Fast and Furious. I’m sure if they put it (on the bike) then it is working.” he said.
Looking like the back of a Stegosaurus Dinosaur according to some, Fabio Quartararo instead opted for a ‘Fast and Furious’ comparison.
