Frenchman Fabio Quartararo was once upon a time, hailed as the rider to beat. After Marc Marquez’s era of dominance came to an end, Fabio tried to take over. After winning the 2021 Rider’s MotoGP world championship, it seemed this was just the start for him. Sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. After the 2021 season came to an end, it’s all been a struggle for the Yamaha rider.
Fabio Quartararo entered the weekend with pre-existing injuries. He had a twisted ankle and a broken toe. Nevertheless, the Frenchman was fit to ride. During the Sprint race of the Dutch MotoGP weekend, Fabio managed to score a podium. Marco Bezzecchi had won the sprint while Pecco Bagnaia finished second and Fabio closed the podium. However, things took a different turn from there.
Hopes were high for Fabio Quartararo for Sunday’s GP. Sadly, the Frenchman had a crash on the third lap of the race which in turn displaced his fracture even more. Although he wasn’t the only rider involved as Johann Zarco was also taken out. After coming back from the medical centre, Fabio was spotted with a sling around his left arm. This made it clear that things weren’t looking good for the Yamaha rider.
Fabio Quartararo will mostly need surgery on his foot following his crash in Assen
In an interview, here is what the Frenchman had to say. “[The arm recovery] is not going to be so long,” he said. “For the foot, I will have to check, but it [is expected to be] surgery,” he said. “I don’t know if I could race right now, it’s pretty painful. I think I will take a rest now, but I expect to be ready for Silverstone,” the Yamaha MotoGP rider continued. The Frenchman will probably have to get surgically done.
Nevertheless, Fabio Quartararo won’t have to worry about missing any races as there is a six week break now. In that break, the rider will have ample time to recover should there be a surgery. He has seemingly gotten into a similar situation like Marc Marquez who is also struggling with injuries. It will be interesting to see whether Fabio can turn everything around this season and take the fight to Pecco.
