Ever since Fabio Quartararo won the 2021 MotoGP world championship with Yamaha, things haven’t been favourable for the rider since then. The Frenchman has had trouble tackling the European manufacturers as his bike hasn’t been on the same level as them. The 2022 season itself was a struggle for the Frenchman who was in an intense title fight with Pecco Bagnaia. Despite his Yamaha having a lot of issues, Fabio tried to keep up with Pecco.

Unfortunately, Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha fell off their charge in the second half of the season due to poorly performances and Pecco Bagnaia went on to win the title. Pecco and Ducati did the impossible as they clawed back on a 91 point lead that Fabio had over them and beat him in the last race of the season. After nine rounds, Quartararo is 11th in the standings followed by his team-mate Franco Morbidelli.

Fabio is not pleased with the team. In an interview, here is what the Frenchman said about the whole situation. “In the Misano test I want to have proof. They have a month. Yamaha has been promising me things for three years in a 10-page PDF document, of which nine-and-a-half pages are not fulfilled,” Quartararo told Autosport last weekend at Silverstone. “This year I did not want to see that PDF,” he said. “Yamaha is the priority because it is the brand that brought me to MotoGP – I trust Yamaha and I gave them a chance, but there won’t be a second one,” he continued.

Yamaha still hasn’t been able to improve its top speed causing a disadvantage to Fabio Quartararo

It has been observed that Yamaha’s Achilles heel is quite possibly their top speed on the straights. Other manufacturers such as Ducati and KTM have been able to easily pass the Yamahas on straights putting them at a disadvantage. On top of that, the 2023 season has been a total failure so far for Yamaha’s title campaign. This had caused Fabio to have second thoughts.

In the first half of the season, Yamaha has a single podium finish to their name. This was achieved by Fabio Quartararo who secured a P3 finish at the Americas GP. Silverstone was an even bigger disappointment as the Yamaha riders were all in the lowest points finishers list. It is quite possible that Fabio might leave Yamaha after this season. Franco is already leaving and is being replaced with Alex Rins for the 2024 campaign.
