Fabio Quartararo set for surgery after the 2022 MotoGP title showdown in Valencia

Fabio Quartararo

It was a great first half of the season for Fabio Quartararo who sat comfortably in the lead of the rider’s standings and looked like he could wrap up the title. With Pecco Bagnaia suffering with a few unlucky moments during the first half, it seemed like he would have to kiss his championship dreams goodbye. However that did not seem to be the case after the first half of this eventful season.

Seemed like a shift of luck came into place as Pecco Bagnaia started his championship charge by getting a bunch of wins as Fabio Quartararo was helplessly watching his rival get the trophies as he suffered his own issues. With bad luck being a factor, a massive lead was turned into a massive deficit with the Monster Energy Yamaha rider having the disadvantage.

The Reigning MotoGP world champion will reportedly be going through surgery following the title showdown at Valencia with Pecco Bagnaia. Fabio suffered a fracture to the middle finger in his left hand as he crashed on Saturday. With the title decider incoming, it is going to be very tough for the Yamaha rider to recover and put his full focus on the race that could make him a 2 time world champion.

During Free Practice 4 at Malaysia, Quartararo fractured the middle finger of his left hand due to a crash. In spite of this, the rider pushed throughout rest of the weekend and managed to achieve a 3rd place finish and still be in contention for the MotoGP title. However, this proves that the injury will be a disadvantage but won’t prevent the rider from being able to compete in the race and have his shot at the title.

After the Malaysian GP, the gap between Fabio Quartararo and Pecco Bagnaia has increased to 23 points. To win the title, all that the Ducati rider has to do is finish the race in 14th or higher. With the Italian’s worst finish being 15th this season, there is a low chance that it will happen again. There is also the possibility of Bagnaia retiring from the race which could end up with Quartararo taking the win and title. That too only if his Yamaha had the pace to stay at the front.
