Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha were once a force to be reckoned with. After the Frenchman won the 2021 MotoGP title with the Japanese manufacturer, hopes were high and so were the expectations from the two parties. However, it all came crashing down as Yamaha was not able to deliver on their promises regarding the bike. It has been a tough few years for the squad.

From winning races to struggling to finish in the points, Yamaha has taken a huge fall. Meanwhile, Pecco Bagnaia seems to be running away with the MotoGP title as he leads the championship. Fabio Quartararo is evidently out of the title race, it seems. The Frenchman had suggested in a recent interview that Yamaha had one chance to deliver with its 2024 bike at the Misano MotoGP test. The Yamaha rider has since gone on to roll back his comments.

In the latest interview, here is what he had to say. “I was a little bit aggressive, maybe too much, with what I said,” commented the Frenchman at the Red Bull Ring on Thursday. “The first part of the season, I was thinking a little bit too much about the position I wanted. Always trying to reach the win, the podium, the top five. And I was never happy with not reaching my goal,” Quartararo went on to state.

Yamaha still hasn’t been able to improve its top speed, causing a disadvantage for Fabio Quartararo

It has been observed that Yamaha’s Achilles heel is quite possibly their top speed on the straights. Other manufacturers such as Ducati and KTM have been able to easily pass the Yamahas on straights, putting them at a disadvantage. On top of that, the 2023 season has been a total failure so far for Yamaha’s title campaign. This had caused Fabio to have second thoughts about his future with the team.

There have also been rumors about Fabio Quartararo possibly being sought after by Honda. The team needs a world-class rider and Fabio fits the job profile. Like Yamaha, Honda has also not been able to live up to expectations, putting Marc Marquez in a similar situation. It will be interesting to see where these two riders land for the 2024 MotoGP season.
