After being in the planning stages for a long time, MotoGP has finally come to India this weekend. With Buddh International Circuit hosting the inaugural round, there has been a lot of hype about the event throughout the year. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of issues that have hit Dorna and the organizers leading up to the event. With Visa’s not being granted and track safety concerns, it seemed like the Indian GP wouldn’t go ahead.

Nevertheless, all the problems have been sorted out as the riders took to the track this morning. However, what caught the eyes of the fans was the map of India that MotoGP was showing on their broadcast. The entire map of the country had not been shown, and a union territory was also excluded. The map that has been broadcast on the world feed doesn’t show parts of Indian-administered territory in Kashmir and Ladakh.

Many individuals and journalists have pointed out the issue and contacted Dorna about it. A spokesperson for the Bharat MotoGP round responded to the outrage. “This is being solved ON PRIORITY. Kindly wait for an update. Thank you everyone who has brought this to our knowledge. Much Appreciated,” he stated. MotoGP’s official X (formerly Twitter) account has also gone on to apologise for the error.

Some individuals claimed that this could have been done for one purpose by someone. Others were of the opinion that it was an honest mistake. Designers usually type the name and grab the first flag that’s available without knowing the political history behind it. Many others have shown their anger toward such a mishap while stating that it’s unacceptable.

On the other hand, track action at the Buddh International circuit has been going smoothly. Turn 1 has been a real challenge for all the riders as many are yet to get used to the braking zone.Takaaki Nakagami had a nasty crash during free practice. On the other hand, VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi went on to top the session. It will be interesting to see how the inaugural Indian MotoGP race weekend progresses.
