“I’m an outsider here,” Jack Miller opens up about the frustrations that he endured at Ducati

Having joined the Ducati factory MotoGP team in 2021, Jack Miller announced a while back that he will be leaving the team to join KTM’s factory outfit for 2023 as he signed a 2-year deal with the Austrian squad. This means that the 2022 season will be his last competing on a Ducati engine as we approach the remaining few races in the MotoGP calendar.

The Aussie rider has been in great form during the final stages of the season as he won in Japan and finished second in Thailand. Jack Miller expressed his frustrations over being offered just one-year contracts all throughout his stint with Ducati. Another component that added to the pressure was being a teammate of Enea Bastianini and Pecco Bagnaia in an Italian team.

It was clear that the team atmosphere would revolve around Pecco Bagnaia and Jack Miller was not surprised. He furthermore said that the team tried to accommodate him as much as they could, but he always felt like an outsider. The main reason could be due to the language barrier that would lead to the Aussie feeling left out of the conversation. Here is what the soon-to-be KTM rider had to say about his situation at Ducati.

The Aussie rider further pointed out some things. “I’m an Australian inside an Italian team. I don’t speak the language so you do get put on the outside. It makes it easier for the team. I’m very open and talk to the team and I think the team really enjoys having me around, but it’s never the same – the same culture, same everything,” he said.

“I’m not going to sit here and lie and say everything was rosy,” Miller said. “I was getting tired of one-year contracts. Having to justify myself in Qatar every single year, why I deserve the job, why I deserve to have my position, and getting questioned by not only the media, but everybody. I was sick and tired of justifying why I should be wanted,” he explained to the media.

Jack Miller has been doing well in the past few races, showing his true pace and not cracking under pressure. Having sought out his future, the Aussie seems even more calm than usual and is ready for a challenge when he joins KTM’s factory team in the 2023 season where he will be partnering South African rider Brad Binder. Who knows what lies in store for Miller in 2023? Only time will tell.
