‘It’s normal, Ducati hasn’t won a championship since 2007,’ Marc Marquez speculates over a controversial moment at the Thai GP

Last weekend, fans got to witness one of the most berserk MotoGP races in the history of the sport. Having had a 10th different pole sitter starting the race, no one could have correctly predicted the winner of the Thai GP. Marc Marquez on the other hand shifted focus to the current leaders of the team’s championship as he seemed to notice something that was out of the ordinary over at Ducati.
During the Thai GP, French rider Johann Zarco was on the charge and finally ended up behind Pecco Bagnaia. Having had great pace all around, it looked as if the Pramac Ducati rider could easily pass the title contender, but that did not seem to be the end result of their battle. Zarco did not overtake Bagnaia even when he had the advantage which seemed a bit unusual to Marc Marquez.
Zarco further explained that he did not overtake Pecco as there was a risk in the move and that he did not want to compromise his constructor teammate’s chances at the title. After the race , Marc Marquez went on to talk about this controversial incident to the media. Although he believes that this wasn’t due to any team orders put forth by Ducati. Here is what the #93 rider had to say.
“I don’t believe it’s factory orders,” Marc Marquez on the Ducati controversy at the Thai GP
Here is what the rider had to say about the situation. “Zarco was arriving very, very fast, he overtook me and then got behind Pecco. I don’t know, I don’t believe it’s factory orders,” he said.
“It’s normal. Ducati hasn’t won the championship since 2007 and that’s normal. They have had a Ducati at the front many times and they have to profit from that, they have the best bike on the grid and they have all the riders in front and they need to use that power to win the championship and I believe they will if what Zarco said is true,” Marc Marquez concluded.
One big advantage that this situation brought about is the gap that Pecco Bagnaia got to close on Fabio Quartararo. With Zarco refusing to pass the Ducati rider, Pecco finished 3rd and amassed a total of 16 points from the race weekend which puts him just two points behind Fabio Quartararo in the MotoGP championship. The title battle is still going strong and will probably be decided between Quartararo and Bagnaia in the coming weeks.
