Marc Marquez and Joan Mir have been in a tough situation for the past few months as their 2023 MotoGP campaign with Honda lies in shambles. Marc won his last MotoGP championship back in 2019 with Honda. Mir had gone on to win the title the next year with Suzuki who have left the sport now. However, everything has drastically changed ever since them.
The 2023 MotoGP season had been drastically disappointing for Honda and its fans. It has come to a point where Joan Mir even considered retiring from the sport at the young age of 25. Mir had joined the team as a replacement for Pol Espargaro. While it is a strong pairing, the Honda hasn’t been very competitive when compared with their European rivals. Ducati powered bikes have been thriving for the past few years.
Here is what Joan Mir had to say about the whole situation. “It’s true that in one moment I thought seriously about stopping. But not because I wanted to go to another bike. I wanted to stop because mentally I was collapsing,” he said. “Now I’m not in that situation. Now I’m in a different situation. “I know that if I stopped, in the future I would regret it a lot.,” he said in an interview with Spanish broadcaster DAZN
Marc Marquez and his teammate have had difficulties even finishing a race this year
Joan Mir and Marc Marquez have had a terrible number of accidents this year. Honda’s poor performance, on the other hand, has been continually compromising any chances of Honda getting back to the top of the pecking order. Mir’s 11th place finish in the Portimao season-opening race remains his only point finish of the season so far. This has led to the rider having many second thoughts.
Joan Mir’s main goal right now is to look after his mental well being amidst Honda’s poor season. While Marco Bezzecchi and Pecco Bagnaia fight for the title, the Honda boys will he focusing on tackling the mental stress and strain that arises from their current struggles. It will be interesting to see what they are able to do at the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix that’s taking place.
