Mooney VR 46 MotoGP team rider and championship contender Marco Bezzecchi had a pretty interesting opening day for the 2023 Austrian GP race weekend. After being the fastest rider on day 1, the three-time MotoGP race winner ran out of fuel on his final time attack run. This further went on to complicate matters at hand for the Italian rider. He had topped Practice 2.

Marco got alerted about an issue in his machine prior to running out of fuel. He went on to park his bike on the side of the track where he caught up with team owner and MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi. The retired MotoGP legend further went on to give Marco a ride on his scooter to go back to the pits. However, the pair hilariously got lost while trying to find a way back to the garages.

In an interview, here is what Marco Bezzecchi had to say about the whole incident. “I finished the fuel and then I was downhill so I said I’ll go as far as I can. But once I turned the corner I saw Vale and stopped,” Marco stated. “Was fantastic to jump on the scooter with him and we spoke a little bit. We got lost a little bit because I didn’t know the way back,” the Italian continued.

There have been suggestions from Ducati that they won’t be able to provide factory spec machinery for Marco Bezzecchi unless he leaves Valentino Rossi’s team. Marco uses year-old Desmosedicis at VR46. Meanwhile the Factory Ducati team and Pramac Racing team have access to the latest bikes. Which is why the best option for the Italian seems to join Pramac for 2024.

However, Marco has stated that his main plan is to stay with the VR 46 team for next year and race with the year old bikes. This being unless Ducati agrees to change its stance on a fifth GP24 entry. Championship leader Pecco Bagnaia is in a good place in the standings. However Marco in not that far behind. It will be interesting to see what happens during Sunday’s race at the Red Bull Ring.
