The 2022 Monster Energy British Grand Prix was one that you couldn’t miss. A plethora of impressive performances and a nail biting finish at Silverstone was just what MotoGP needed. But in retrospect, this might not be the case as the race had a very poor turnout comparatively.

There were a few grandstands that were fully empty whilst most of the grandstands were a long way from being completely filled. Apparently the 2022 edition of the British Grand Prix was one with the smallest amount of spectators since the race was moved from Donnington Park to Silverstone.

This is a gravely disappointing situation that arose at the home of motor racing back in the UK. Stewart Pringle who is the current director of the Silverstone circuit reacted to these dangerously low numbers. He said in an interview that the audience was disappointing. He gave a few thoughts about this grave situation and pointed out a key aspect which has possibly resulted in such a low turnout at Silverstone.

“It was a sunny day and I’m a little disappointed that we didn’t have more audience. I think the promoter, the national broadcaster and the national governing body all have something to do here. We all have to pull together,” he said.

“As for possible causes, the British director said: “Dorna knows they have a big task ahead of them. When Valentino announced his retirement, we saw what happened with the ticket sales. Everyone is still coming in their Rossi shirts. It is the predominant brand out there”

After an enthralling 20 laps, Ducati rider Pecco Bagnaia managed to hold off Maverick Vinales until the very last lap in order to win the 2022 British GP. The race itself had its fair share of drama and some compelling overtakes which made the crowd rise from their seats out of anticipation. With Valentino Rossi not competing in the sport anymore, it is going to take some time to bring in new fans to the sport. While it is also important to make sure that the existing fans also have enough incentive to keep watching.
