“The king is back”: MotoGP Twitter celebrates Marc Marquez’s 100th premier class podium win after recovery from spine surgery

Marc Marquez takes the second spot in the Australian GP

Going into the 2022 Australian MotoGP race, fans were waiting with baited breath to find out who comes out on top of the score table–defending Champion Fabio Quartararo or his title rival Pecco Bagnaia. The two racing behemoths were separated only by two points before the race at the Phillip Island Circuit. And now, Ducati’s Francisco Bagnaia has managed to leave Quartararo far behind as he got the third spot and Fabio Quartararo crashed out of the race.

Now, the title rivalry is not the only thing that ran on the fans’ minds while watching the Australian MotoGP race. Marc Marquez, who made a return to riding his Repsol Honda in the Aragon Grand Prix after a long hiatus due to his spine surgery, has been showing a steady improvement in his performance these days. Only a week ago, motorsport legend Jorge Lorenzo said there is every bit of a chance that Marquez might win a race in 2022.

Staying true to Lorenzo’s words, Marc Marquez proved it to the fans in Australia that he is finally back in form as he collected his 100th premiere class Grand Prix podium. Repsol Honda quickly tweeted about this massive feat once the race was over, and fans poured their admiration onto the Spaniard for not giving up on racing even after succumbing to terrible health issues.

Ever since his comeback to professional racing in Aragon Grand Prix, Marc Marquez has shown a steady increase in his pace. While his Repsol Honda motorbike has not provided him with the right kind of performance advantage, he has not shied away from aiming for the race win, despite his recent spine surgery in the US. In Japan, he got his first pole of the season, and ended the race in the fourth place. And in Australia, he stepped up his game, got P2 in Qualifying, and walked out with a second position in the Phillip Island Circuit.

Here is what the fans had to say about Marquez’s brilliant feat–

Some fans also commented about how he could achieve the second spot in the Australian MotoGP even after having a performance deficit due to his Honda bike.

And then, some other followers talked about how this podium victory is only the beginning for a new phase of Marc Marquez’s career. Fans believe, if he builds up the momentum for next year with more practice and a better racing bike, he might even win his seventh Championship next year.

In other news, the Australian MotoGP saw their own racer Jack Miller crash out, crushing the hopes of many of the Aussie fans. The same happened with Fabio Quartararo, who has now lost all hopes of defending his World title as there is a gap of 14 points between him and Pecco Bagnaia, with only two races to go before the season ends. Alex Rins took the crown for the Grand Prix, and Jorge Martin, who got pole position by shattering Lorenzo’s nine-year old record, fell down to P9 in the Main Race.
