“There are movements that he won’t be able to do anymore”: Chicho Lorenzo questions Marc Marquez’s fitness since his return to MotoGP

Jorge Lorenzo’s father Chicho Lorenzo discussed some of the key points that he noted from all the racers’ performances in last week’s Italian Grand Prix in Mugello. A quite striking thing that the Spaniard discovered was that Marc Marquez, in his opinion, was not performing as well as he was able to, before sustained all those injuries.

From Chicho’s viewpoint, the six-time MotoGP World Champion has lost quite a big chunk of mobility of his limbs, so Marc Marquez will never get back to his old form, even if he tries hard, as he has promised he is doing. Marc Marquez is one of the most gifted and most successful racers in the history of Formula 1, but his career has been hampered in the last few years because of his many injuries.

Marc Marquez took a break from racing for quite a long time, and has only returned to this year’s season in the American Grand Prix in Austin. He has admitted to the fact that he might never get back to being his old healthy self, but he had also said he will try hard.

In July 2020, Marc Marquez succumbed to a complicated right arm injury, which he had brushed off at that moment, so that he could get back to racing. And that worsened his condition, and Marc had to take a break from racing to recuperate and heal. Ever since then, injuries have been a part and parcel of Marc Marquez’s life, as he never really got back to his old physical fitness.

Chicho Lorenzo has pointed out that, while Marc Marquez is trying hard to get comfortable in his new motorbike to take on the challenge of winning another Championship, he might be in an even worse shape than before. Chicho said, “He won three races last year, of course, they were on circuits that were very favourable for him; circuits where he had always dominated with a lot of difference. And now he doesn’t even win on these circuits. My question is: is it possible that his physical condition has worsened?

Chicho Lorenzo also said, “He (Marc Marquez) says he will not be the same again, but he is working to recover. Although there are movements that he won’t be able to do anymore.”
