“This is the only possibility”: Alberto Puig confirms Stefan Bradl will replace Marc Marquez due to his scheduled spine surgery
Marc Marquez
As six-time World Champion Marc Marquez gets ready for his spine surgery over the next few weeks, the Repsol Honda team has chosen Stefan Bradl to replace him once again. Team Manager Alberto Puig reported recently that HRC Test Rider Bradl has been selected and confirmed to fill in Marc Marquez‘s shoes as he will be absent from MotoGP for the time being.
Marc Marquez has had his own fair share of injuries ever since he first encountered a massive accident during the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix where he fractured his right humerus. The Spaniard has been struggling with his health because of a sudden onset of diplopia as well, which caused him to take another extended leave from racing after the Mandalika race this year in Indonesia.
Currently in the ninth position in the 2022 MotoGP World Championship table, Marc Marquez was only getting back into his old form when he decided he has to go under the knife for a corrective procedure yet again. The Spaniard has scored 60 points in the 2022 season, and as he will be missing out on the next few races, Stefan Bradl will take his place.
Alberto Puig comments on Marc Marquez’s further absence from racing
Marc Marquez has suffered with his various health issues ever since the unfortunate accident that he succumbed to in July 2020. As the Spaniard acknowledges that he will never be able to get back into his old form because the accidents have taken a huge toll on him, he still decided to go ahead with a fourth surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, because he knows it will help him in future.
The Repsol Honda Team Manager Alberto Puig had given his statement on Marc’s absence from racing for the next few races. He said, “We have been analysing the possibility of another surgery for quite a while and finally this weekend we had the green light from the doctors.”
Standing by the side of Marc Marquez, Alberto Puig said, “On Friday we found out it was possible to do this and we decided to follow this course of action, for Marc Márquez to stop racing and travel to the US for surgery to try and finally resolve this problem.”
Finally, Puig said, “We will replace him with our test rider Stefan Bradl because this is the only possibility we have.”
