A Moto GP missile going up in flames is not an extremely rare sight, as rare as it might be. Engines blow up in practice sessions sometimes as the team and rider continuously experiment on the bike to determine their preferred setup for the Grand Prix. A similar incident took place with Alex Rins’ Suzuki at the last year’s Indonesian Grand Prix

Alex Rins was driving his Suzuki around the track at Mandalika Circuit, understanding the bike and getting the best setup ready for the Sunday’s race during the FP4. But he encountered an unfortunate situation as his ride burst into flames. The driver had to think quickly as the flame was getting big. He quickly slowed his bike down and jumped off it while it was still moving.

The Bike continued to move once he got out, and the Marhsle rushed onto the scene as soon as the Suzuki came to rest to address the fire. Rins’ quick thinking helped him escape the incident with zero injuries. It would have turned ugly if he chose to wait till the bike stopped to get off of it. Rins explained his crash as he recounted running wide in T10 and eventually catching fire in T11.

Rins said, “There was a problem with the tube where the oil goes In corner 10, I had a small rear slide. I looked down at my boots and the tire, but everything was normal, so I continued pushing. Then in the next corner, I lost it again. So I went out of the line, first for my safety and the safety of the others.”

Johann Zarco the only driver who was riding alongside Rins, admitted that he was concerned about the possibility of the Suzuki exploding. He said, “Then when I saw the bike on fire it was a scary moment because what went into my head was ‘Alex, jump’ because maybe the bike will explode. So it was not a good moment.

Alex Rins’ current injury update

Rins had a massive crash at Mugello in the 2023 season. The Former Suzuki rider rode for the LCR Honda team at the Italian GP weekend. In the Sprint race on Saturday, Alex Rins was spotted doing ferocious barrel rolls in the gravel at Turn 8 after being thrown off his Honda. The Spaniard crashed at the famous Arabbiatta 1 – a notorious high-speed corner and sustained major leg injuries.

The Spaniard had a double break of the tibia and a double break of the fibula as he landed feet first in the gravel. The rider has been absent from Grand Prix racing following this injury. Rins spoke of his absence and the subsequent surgeries resulting from the crash.

It’s been hard,” he said about his second surgery. “I stayed many days at the hospital lying in bed, doing nothing. They told me to use a wheelchair to avoid inflammation. I haven’t put my foot on the ground yet but I keep going. Honestly, I never stop. Gym in the morning. Super Inductive System therapy after the gym.”

The Honda rider attempted a comeback this weekend but was forced out of Sunday’s proceedings due to increasing ‘nerve pains’. The LCR garage awaits Rin’s return. The Rider is still the only Honda Rider to win this season. That is a stat to boast about if you’re (more or less) on the same bike as Marc Marquez. Alex Rins will surely attempt another comeback at this season’s Indonesian GP, and we hope it fares well this time for the rider.
