Marc Marquez isn’t at the best position right now to fight for wins or to bring Honda forward. His abilities and the bike’s abilities seem to be at a standstill. It has been a tough year for both the parties till now. Amidst the misery, the Honda rider has gone on to state that this is the “worst moment of his MotoGP career” apart from his injuries in 2020. This statement comes after the Spaniard’s P17 finish at the Dutch GP sprint race.
Last time out at the Sachsenring MotoGP round, the Honda rider had a horrid weekend at the German GP. Marc Marquez was helpless as a plethora of crashes left him in no condition to ride. That same weekend, Marc had crashed his bike 5 times. It was painful to watch him struggling to get better. In the end, he had to withdraw from the German GP. He came to Assen with the goal of just participating in order to help Honda in its development process of the bike.
During Friday’s FP2 session, the Honda rider suffered a crash but that wasn’t the end. During Q1, Marc Marquez crashed into Ducati’s Enea Bastianini for which he later apologised to him. However it became clear that the were no miracles to be expected from the Honda rider. He later went on to finish in 17th position in the Dutch MotoGP sprint. This was the lowest ever on-the-road finishing position for the eight-time world champion.
Marc Marquez is going through the worst moment of his MotoGP career
In an interview, here is what the Spaniard had to say. “Apart from the [2020] injuries, this is the worst moment of my sporting career,” he said. “But defeat is the easy option. And I will never choose the easy way. Right now I’m riding for myself; for my engineers. Going half a second a lap slower, the problems are the same.”
He added: “Today I saw that I wasn’t in my place.”
With the summer break coming after this, the riders won’t be racing for 6 weeks which makes the situation even more complicated. Things aren’t really looking well for Honda in recent times. Alex Rins is the topmost Honda rider in the championship standings whilst being all the way down in 13th place. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez is all the way in the back in 19th position with 15 points to his name. It will be interesting to see what happens next for Marc and Honda.
