It is abundantly clear that Marc Marquez is one of the all time greats that MotoGP has seen with the Spanish rider making impossible look possible. The 8 time world champion however faced a lot of adversity when he broke is right hand during the practice session of the season opening race weekend in 2020. Due to this injury, the Honda rider was forced to do 3 more injuries over the course of time.
Due to these operations, the Honda rider’s right humerus which had rotated 30 degrees from its original position hindering when he got back on his bike. Marc Marquez did in fact come to compete again after 3 rounds of the 2021 season had already commenced. The Spaniard still managed to end the season with 3 wins to his name but something still seemed wrong with the world champion.
After consulting doctors, Marc Marquez announced during the Italian GP weekend that he was gonna go for a fourth surgery in 2022 and would have to sit out for most of the season. This was some devastating news for his fans but everyone knew that it was necessary for him to go forward with. Having returned back in September, the driver managed to score pole position in Japan and shock the whole paddock. However the injury is still something that will never leave the rider.

In an interview with Motorsport.com , here is what he had to say. “Of course, many times you think a lot of things about your arm,” he said. “And many times, it’s difficult to realise sometimes or admit that you have this injury. But, in the end you must say, ‘OK, this is what I have’. It’s true that I had the fourth surgery, it’s true that an arm that has been opened four times will never be a normal arm, because you have some limitations,” he continued.
“But then you need to accept those limitations, try to compensate with your body, with different things. I’m not thinking a lot about it, just I’m thinking more how to improve, about how to manage it, how to adapt,” the Spanish rider concluded having said some reassuring and motivating words for those suffering from similar injuries.
With the 2022 season behind him, Marc Marquez will be keen on going back to his old form and competing with the likes of Fabio Quartararo and Pecco Bagnaia for the 2023 MotoGP title in order to win his 9th world championship. Marc will be partnered up with Joan Mir who came to Repsol Honda from Suzuki who have now left the sport. It is all to play for the Honda boys this season.
