Carolina Panthers HC Dave Canales decided to bench 2023 NFL first-overall pick Bryce Young after a dismal start to the 2024 regular season. Instead, 36-year-old Andy Dalton will start for the Panthers in Week 3.

The Panthers’ decision to bench Bryce Young hasn’t gone down well with the NFL community. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott felt it was unfair to him, reminding the Panthers that the NFL is a team game. Multiple calls have drawn attention to the lackluster team, which is equally responsible for the ongoing tough period.

The team hasn’t had a positive environment for some time now. They had five different coaches in five years, highlighting an issue with management. Micah Parsons, another Cowboys player, pointed out that Young lacks any role model to shape after. The team was in absolute shambles when Young walked in last year.

Amid this, Young admitted there’s no bad blood, and he respects the organization. There were rumors of a trade since the day Canales announced the benching. Canales has himself come forward and said they aren’t planning to trade him.

Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, however, has tweeted that despite Canales coming forward, multiple teams have expressed interest in claiming the young quarterback as an addition to their squad. Earlier, Dan Orlovsky had identified the Los Angeles Rams as a potential franchise for Young to develop and redeem himself.

Panthers offense looking sharp despite no Bryce Young

The Carolina Panthers are looking sharp after practice ahead of the Las Vegas Raiders match this week. Dalton has supposedly established a bond with the team and the players, and will be looking forward to a good result.

Practice looks sharp, just constant communication. He’s talkin’ to guys, which is just a continuation of building our concepts, building our team and finding our identity.
Dave Canales told reporters

The Panthers lacked an identity for the better part of last few years. Their offense, saw Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold struggling with poor performances while they played in Charlotte. Considering how they have grown into better quarterbacks with 2-0 starts this season, it is pertinent that Panthers finally understand the fault is not just the QB’s but the entire line.

Andy Dalton is getting his second start in Carolina. He started last year against the Seattle Seahawks in a week 3 like this. He was then able to play for 361 yards, which is the most by a Panthers QB since 2023.
