Indian Super League 2020/21 winners Mumbai City FC have roped in the services of Lalengmawia Ratle, who is otherwise known as Apuia among fans.
Apuia started his youth career with AIFF Elite Academy and then joined Indian Arrows in 2017. He served the Arrows until the end of the 2019 I-League season. He scored a goal in 13 appearances for the Indian Arrows side. The Indian player spent his last two seasons with the Indian Super League club NorthEast United FC.
“Firstly, I want to thank NorthEast United for giving me the opportunity to play at the highest level in India but now, I feel I am ready to take the next step in my career. To join a club of Mumbai City’s stature is a huge honour for me and for my family. The club has the ambition and the intent, not just to win titles in India but to make a mark in Asia as well and I want to be a part of it. The club had a hugely successful last season and I believe we’re on the right path to build something special here. I am still young, I have a lot to learn and I am looking forward to getting to work with the coach Sergio Lobera, his staff and my new teammates.”
Apuia’s performance with NorthEast United FC
Apuia joined NorthEast United FC ahead of the 2019/20 Indian Super League season. He played ten matches for the club in his debut ISL season. He was awarded the yellow card a couple of times during that season. The Indian midfielder played all 20 league matches for the NorthEast-based club last season. He scored a goal against Kerala Blasters in the final group stage fixture.
The 20-year-old led his side against FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC and became the youngest captain to lead a team in the ISL.
