“MVPs that don’t have rings, not a long list” – Joel Embiid needs to prove MVP caliber, analyst DISMISSES his merit list
Nick Wright believes Joel Embiid is under immense pressure for being the only MVP to never get past the second-round.
Nick Wright and Joel Embiid
Joel Embiid was recently announced as the 2022-23 NBA MVP. But unfortunately, that isn’t enough for him to win all the recognition. As many around the league, especially, analyst Nick Wright aren’t riding with MVP Joel Embiid and want him to get a deep post-season run.
In the recent episode of First Things First, sitting alongside Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes, Nick Wright brought up a very interesting argument. He believes Joel Embiid would now be under immense pressure after winning the MVP award. Embiid is the only MVP who hasn’t gotten past the second round and has yet to get his hands on the title.
Nick Wright started his take by appreciating Joel Embiid for caring about the MVP award. Recently, he admitted that he only said he doesn’t care about the award to avoid the media and deep down cared a lot to get his hands on it. The analyst liked the actions of Embiid and even added some more names to the list who cared and got the job done by winning the MVP award. But then he went on to bring his interesting take on the desk.
As Nick Wright quoted, “There is now immense pressure on Joel Embiid … Here’s why MVPs that don’t have rings, not a long list. MVPs that never made the finals, a very short list. MVPs that never made the conference finals, now it’s just one guy (Joel Embiid). So MVPs that never won a ring but made the Finals… Barkley, Mailman, Iverson, Harden, Russ they made it to the Finals but never won the ring. Nash, Rose, and Joker have never made the Finals… Now he’s the only MVP to never make it out of Round 2 and now he has got a career ahead of all these things.”
Joel Embiid is yet to reach the conference finals in his career. And, now he ain’t just a superstar from the league. He’s the league’s MVP and he’ll have to prove his greats to the basketball world. So Nick Wright isn’t wrong and it’s high time for Joel Embiid and the Sixers to get in doing some serious business to have a deep postseason run and a shot at the NBA Title.
Can Joel Embiid lead the Philadelphia 76ers to the 2023 NBA Finals?
Joel Embiid can surely lead the Philadelphia 76ers to the 2023 NBA Finals. The team has already made it to the second round and is currently tied against the Boston Celtics at 1-1. They got the dub in Game 1 but had a blowout loss in Game 2 when Joel Embiid returned back to the team.
They should also work around their defensive end and fetch some new plays against the Boston Celtics. Throughout the season they have maintained a losing record against them and even Joel Embiid knows that. But if the story continues to be the same for the Sixers and they don’t make any good adjustments to fall on the winning end. Then, unfortunately, they won’t even be able to reach the Eastern Conference Finals and once again get an early second-round exit. As the Boston Celtics won’t go any easy on them and try to get a trip to the Finals too.
