The Cleveland Browns struggled with inconsistency at the quarterback position last season, which contributed significantly to their underwhelming performance. Deshaun Watson, who started the season under center, struggled to generate offensive production before suffering a season-ending injury.
His replacement, Jameis Winston, faced similar challenges, failing to provide the stability the team needed. With the offseason underway, Kenny Pickett remains the only healthy and active quarterback on the roster, highlighting the Browns’ urgent need to address the position.
Myles Garrett, who won the Defensive Player of the Year award a season ago, has voiced his thoughts on the unfortunate environment. As with anyone, Garrett also would love to play under a strong quarterback who can lead them to the playoffs and preferably some postseason success as well.
Garrett, who recently signed a contract extension, previously voiced frustration with the Browns’ struggles. Garrett’s earlier noted that he is ready to move past the Deshaun Watson era. Injuries and inconsistent play have prevented Watson from securing the role long-term.
In the latest interview, the defensive player dropped several hints on what he expects from the franchise. His expectations are simple – someone “young.”
Any team that’s going to go far needs a quarterback and one that’s young, can learn and is willing to be patient with the process.

The Cleveland Browns hold the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft, a position that could allow them to find a franchise quarterback. The last two teams with this pick, the Houston Texans and Washington Commanders, selected quarterbacks who became instant starters.
As of now, the Browns are heavily linked with Cam Ward, who played for the Miami Hurricanes in college. They have conducted private workout sessions and several discussions with the player to test the waters as the Annual Player Selection Meeting inches closer.
Myles Garrett advocates patience with new quarterback, whoever that may be
In recent years, the pressure on a young quarterback to instantly develop into a franchise quarterback has been high. Bryce Young suffered the same with the Carolina Panthers as he failed to show up in his rookie season.

Daniel Jones’s joining the Indianapolis Colts had reawakened this discussion a few days ago as well. The Colts already had Anthony Richardson, who is increasingly being projected to be the backup under Daniel Jones. The move is being heavily criticized for being harmful to new and young quarterback development.
In light of the same, Myles Garrett also advised the Browns about how to move ahead with the new quarterback.
There’s going to be some bumps in the road. It’s going to be some learning pains. But us as a team has to be able to be a landing pad for him, and know being on the defensive side, help him out whenever things go wrong.

The Browns are increasingly angling towards a rookie as the Kirk Cousins deal keeps on dragging with uncertainties. If so, they hire a new franchise starter, they cannot expect them to be Jayden Daniels from Day One. Following the defensive end’s comments, they need to understand that being Daniel is an exception, not a rule.
