The Big Three of Tennis– Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have dominated men’s tennis for over a decade and share an incredible amount of success between themselves. The trio have won a combined of 57 Grandslam titles. They have created an ever-lasting impression on the tennis circuit and will certainly be missed once they retire.

The current ATP chairman, Andrea Gaudenzi is not too concerned about their retirement. He cited the rivalry between Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras as an example of how tennis moved on after their retirement.

I started playing tennis during the era of Pete Sampras and André Agassi. Many people said that tennis would have not survived their retirement and it would have been very difficult to match between Sampras and Agassi,” said Gaudenzi.

Eventually tennis will create new stars: ATP Chairman

Federer who turns 40 this year is expected to retire some time in the near future

Speaking further in the interview, the ATP Chairman pointed out to the inevitable circle in tennis. He stated that legends retire in tennis and they are eventually replaced by rising stars who take their place.

“Their longevity is incredible though, and of course, they will be missed whenever they decide to retire. I think the game is a great product, so eventually tennis will create new stars. If you look back, the sport has always generated amazing rivalries,” the Italian said.

Gaudenzi expects that there will be newer rivalries in tennis after the Big Three retire. In the recent years, the likes of Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev have announced themselves on the big stage. There are also some teenagers like Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz who are expected to do well in the coming years.
