Naomi Osaka’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou doesn’t ‘agree’ Jannik Sinner is the ‘best player’ and ‘above’ Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz leads Jannik Sinner 6-4 in the head-to-head meetings and won the three matches they played against each other last year.

Jannik Sinner has been on a roll since 2024 as he has not only clinched three Grand Slam titles but has also been producing consistent results. Due to his success last year, he is being called the best player at present, but Serena Williams‘ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou explained why it’s not the case.

Sinner, who beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the Australian Open final, registered a 73-6 win-loss record last year, but half of his defeats came to Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard won all the encounters against the Italian last year, which is why Mouratoglou said Sinner is not better than Alcaraz.

Everybody sees Jannik Sinner as the best player in the world right now, but I don’t agree. He’s not above everybody. I don’t think he’s above Carlos. I think when Carlos is at his best, there’s a real match and I don’t know who’s going to win. Nobody can say who’s going to win.

Patrick Mouratoglou said on Instagram

Mouratoglou then talked about the differences between Alcaraz and Sinner’s game. He pointed out Alcaraz has ‘incredible power in the racket’, has the ability to ‘change pace’, takes risks, and ends up making a lot of unforced errors, while Sinner ‘plays at a crazy pace’.

Angelo Binaghi calls Jannik Sinner stronger than Carlos Alcaraz

Italian tennis chief Angelo Binaghi believes that in tennis, Italy is the ‘strongest nation in the world’ after Jannik Sinner‘s victory at the Australian Open. And while praising Sinner, Binaghi compared him to Carlos Alcaraz, though his comments did not go down well with the tennis fans.

I always thought that Jannik was in perspective much stronger than Alcaraz and that his real opponent would be [Alexander] Zverev…very fearsome especially on fast surfaces. Today Jannik left us speechless, he is a champion of a level clearly superior to the others and his own rival recognized it.

Angelo Binaghi told La Gazzetta dello Sport

Binaghi is hoping to see Sinner win the Italian Open this season. Although he is being called the best hard-court player right now, Sinner has never reached the final of the French Open and the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon. It was Alcaraz who completed the rare Channel Slam last year.

En route to his three out of four successful campaigns last year, Alcaraz had defeated Sinner. They first locked horns in the semifinal of the Indian Wells, which the 21-year-old won in three sets, before knocking out the 23-year-old from the French Open after a five-set win in the semifinal. In their last meeting, Alcaraz beat Sinner in the Beijing Open final in three sets.
