Naomi Osaka reacts to the extraordinary accomplishments of Sports icon Yuzuru Hanyu, after he announces retirement

Naomi Osaka, the four-time Grand Slam winner, is set to play her first tournament since the Roland Garros where she lost to Amanda Anisimova in the first round. She missed the Wimbledon 2022 due to an injury. She has always been upfront about mental health awareness and was applauded after she spoke about it at the 2021 French Open. She became the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam singles title.

Osaka is set to play her first tournament since the French Open at Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic in California which starts next month. She is a wild-card entrant to the tournament besides other big names like Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.

Japanese sports icon Yuzuru Hanyu, a two-time Olympic champion in figure skating and the youngest winner of Japan’s prestigious People’s Honour Award in 2018, recently announced his retirement from the sporting world. He retired at the age of 27 as he had been struggling with injuries. He is called the “Ice Prince” but his poor form due to injuries cost him losing at the Tokyo Olympics and he ended the fourth place. He told in his statement that “I have no sadness, I want to continue to do my best“.

His announcement shook the world and especially his countrymen but he said that he will play exhibition matches but does not wish to compete at the competitive level.

Sportspersons congratulated the 27-year-old star and Osaka was one of them. Naomi Osaka, who was the torch-bearer of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, congratulated Hanyu and applauded his accomplishments of an illustrious career and making his mark in history. Osaka on her social media account, reshared a post of the skater’s fan page which illustrated the skater’s achievements and his illustrious career.
